Antler Reproductions

Antler reproductions are crafted for bucks that have a broken tine or tip and require a reproductive element in order to match the original. These reproductions help create lifelike shoulder mounts or even full-body mounts and they are virtually impossible to distinguish from the real thing. Besides producing very high quality deer head and shoulder mounts, The Outpost also specializes in fixing antlers. Antler Repairs are done with modern resins that can be sculpted into nearly any shape or size of repair. The repairs are textured and colored so realistically that you will likely not be able to tell where the repairs were done. Antler replicas can be made for deer, elk, moose, sheep or any other horned animal. We also can do cut-offs, antler repair, and antler attachments. Contact us for more information about antler repair or taxidermy services.

3 Life Hacks You Should Know For Your Next Fishing Trip

Fishing is one of those things most of us do to relax. Even sport fishermen, who live for the thrill of the fight, understand how to embrace the quiet of a lake, or the soft breeze over the ocean. However, there are a hundred little things that can distract you, niggle at you, or just end up becoming an annoyance when you’re getting ready to cast a line. So before you head out on your next fishing trip, keep these life hacks in mind. Hack #1: Nail Polish Nail polish is one of those multi-tools that every fisherman should keep on hand. If you’re worried about your hooks corroding, just apply a coat or two of nail polish to keep them safe from rust. If you want to keep the ties on your flies secure, paint them with polish for some extra grip. If your lures need a color change, […]

Get Your Kids Hooked on Hunting

Chances are excellent that when you think back on how you got involved in the outdoors, you have some good memories of great experiences that shaped you into the hunter you are today. As sportsmen, we are responsible for ensuring that future generations find fulfillment and joy in these same pursuits, and there’s no easier audience for this than our own children. Whether your kids are in diapers or you are paying college tuition, it is never too early (or late) to start them down the road to a hobby and passion that will follow them throughout the rest of their lives. DON’T BE PUSHY Kids most receptive to new things when it is their idea. While the ultimate end game is to have your child in the field with you beaming ear-to-ear after harvesting their first November buck or fifteenth April gobbler, they have to want to do it. […]

Mistakes to Avoid with Hunting Blinds

More and more hunters are choosing the convenience of a ground blind over the traditional tree stand. If you’re thinking of making the switch yourself, or just entering your first season, here are a few common mistakes to avoid with hunting blinds. Not Concealing the Scent Ground blinds are often made from cloth materials similar to your clothes. This means they absorb the scent of their surroundings. So if you store your blind in a dank basement the rest of the year, it’s going to start to smell like it. So remember to air it out and spray it down with a good scent eliminator before use. Hunting immediately after set up Game animals such as deer need time to get used to changes in their environment. While hunting in an open field is certainly possible, a ground blind isn’t likely to go unnoticed. Remember to give them time to adjust […]

5 Tips And Tricks To Make Your Hunting Trip More Comfortable

People have been camping since the dawn of time, and you’d think with all that practice we’d be champions at it by now. Despite all this time spent in the wilderness, either for fun or out of necessity on a hunting trip, we still have a lot to learn. Fortunately, these camping tips & tricks brought to you by Mixer 2 Mower, Life Hack, and BuzzFeed will make your next trek into the wilds just a little easier. Tip #1: Use Sage For Mosquito Control There’s nothing like a night around the campfire. The smell of wood smoke, the primal attraction of the leaping flames, and the smell of marshmallows and hot dogs getting cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, there’s also mosquitoes. While the smoke from the fire will keep some of them away, it won’t keep the bulk of these blood drinkers from crashing your party. Unless you use a bit of […]

Bleaching Skulls: Bleach versus Hydrogen Peroxide

If you want beautiful white skulls to add to your collection, then bleaching is really the only way to go. You can clean a skull until the cows come home, but you will never get that beautiful pristine white without treating it first. However, the term “bleaching a skull” is a bit of a misnomer. It makes less informed hunters believe that you should use literal bleach to get the effect, but the truth is you never want to use bleach on bone. Bleach can remove any excess tissue from bone without a doubt, but it will damage the skull itself in a very permanent way. Skulls treated with bleach become chalky and porous because the bleach has broken down the structure of it, this means the bone will eventually deteriorate into dust. Worse yet, a skull treated with bleach doesn’t really turn that beautiful bleached white that we expect. […]
